The National Molecular Reference Laboratory is a public facility working under the administration of the Eswatini Health Laboratory Service, overseen by the Ministry of Health. It is located in the fourth level of the Eswatini Health Laboratory complex which is adjacent to the Mbabane Government Hospital. The laboratory provides referral services for HIVVL-RNA PCR, HIV-DNA PCR (EID), Malaria LAMP testing and other tests relevant to disease surveillance. The Roche platform is currently in use for Molecular diagnostics of HIV.
NMRL also receives samples for the surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases such as Rotavirus, Rubella and Measles. The lab has a malaria wing that processes samples from across the country using the LAMP assay.
